Malabar Farm

Historic Malabar Farm is an Ohio state park between Columbus and Cleveland. Louis Bromfield developed the farm starting in 1939 out of his interest in sustainable agriculture.  He was a prolific and successful writer and he won a Pulitzer.
He offered his farm as a retreat to stars and celebrities. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married here.
JDo and I camped here a night on our way east two weeks ago.

Rap-Shaw by canoe in a cloud of blackflies ...remember it is still June.  The rule was always: open up the camp and turn on the water over Memorial Day.  Skip June.  Summer starts on the Fourth of July weekend.

Gateway Arch

We moved to Saint Louis around Labor Day 2008.  I soon found the Arch to be a captivating subject.  It is always beautiful.  The structure is magnificent. The design awes me. It captures and reflects light.  It soars into the clouds.  It is flat.  It curves.  It is huge.  It is thread-thin.
Caught up with so many other things, I left it alone for months.
I went there this morning.  It completely awed me again.  I felt vertigo looking straight up at it.  I saw a man on a cell phone walking near it so slowly, looking up and up, trying to explain it to someone.
