Always curious...always ready to go out.

We had a snow storm at midday yesterday 

after the temperature dropped by 15 degrees between 5 and 7am.  

The storm came at us from the south, 

right up the Mississippi valley in a giant cyclone 

carrying cold air in from the northwest 

and picking up moisture from the Gulf.

We Northeasterners are agog with the Missouri Novembers.  Sunny sixty degrees on November 21, a trip around the lagoon on a peddleboat at the Boathouse, leisurely lunch outdoors and the waiter brings water for Joli and all of the many other dogs there..we are going to miss this!

Missouri: Jefferson City

York, Meriwether Lewis, Seaman, Joli, Ed, William Clark and George Drouillard at Jefferson City where we spent our last night on the road. Seaman is checking out Lewis' hat.  It is still very early in the trip for the Corps of Discovery.

The sculptures on the site, Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza, were designed by Sabra Tull Meyer, Missouri sculptor.

Huntington WV: Central City Cafe

Hey, Miss Joli, whatcha doin' there in front of the Central City Cafe?


This place was a find for lunch on our return trip from Pennsylvania to Missouri.  Just off the western-most exit of I 64, on a corner in the heart of the antique district of Huntington, near the Ohio River and the weekly farmers' market, this spot serves delicious lunches to a steady parade of locals and made us want to move to Huntington.  


Little did we know that it was featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.  Well deserved!

Little Grand Canyon

Joli and I spent an easy half day walking and scrambling in the Little Grand Canyon National Natural Landmark in southern Illinois.

Look at these steps carved into the stone, otherwise steep and slippery, by a CCC crew in the 1930s. They show up just when you need them.
